Combat: The ghost of Sister Mary Rebecca appears as an incredibly beautiful young woman, combining an appearance of pure innocence with an indescribable air of malignity and sensuality. Her beauty and evil spiritual power allow her to charm person at will, though she can have only 18 HD of charmed victims at once. (The sisters of her convent do not count towards this total; see "Lair" below.)

As a ghost, Sister Mary Rebecca is completely incorporeal. Only magical weapons of +2 or better enchantment can harm her, and even then her low armor class makes her very difficult to wound. A flask of holy water inflicts 1d6 points of damage to her on a successful attack roll vs. AC 4. She can become invisible or visible at will, but must be visible in order to attack.

Sister Mary Rebecca's ghostly touch burns as with the fire that took her life at the stake, causing 1d8 points of damage to the victim and draining one life energy level. She can be turned as a vampire, with a -1 penalty to the roll.

Lair: Sister Mary Rebecca makes her home in the convent where she lived the last four years of her short life. All the sisters are her charmed servants, and within its walls no magic can break her charm. Any woman who takes the vows of the order within the convent automatically falls under Sister Mary Rebecca's charm, perpetuating an order of sisters who serve, not the Church, but this fiendish ghost.

Background: Sister Mary Rebecca was a Spanish nun who lived in Seville in the late 15th century. She came from a family of Jewish converts to Christianity, and while growing up continued to practice certain Jewish rites in secret. Her family did not eat pork, and they celebrated the Sabbath and Passover behind closed doors in their home. Mary Rebecca, the youngest child of the family, rejected the Jewish practices of her parents and embraced the Catholic faith wholeheartedly, entering a convent at the age of 14 and taking the vows of the religious life.

When Sister Mary Rebecca was 18 years old, her family was brought before the Inquisition and charged with heresy for their practice of Judaism. Because her father was influential among other crypto-Jews in Seville, he and his family were made an example, and were burned at the stake. Despite Sister Mary Rebecca's devotion to the Catholic Church, she was tried and executed with the rest of her family.

Her arrest was an incredibly traumatic experience for the young woman, who felt that the Church she loved with all her heart had betrayed her. She died in a state of strong emotion and spiritual turmoil, and her spirit could not rest after her execution. She returned to haunt the convent where she had lived, and wreaked her vengeance on the sisters she felt had betrayed her. From her lair in the convent, she continues to send her charmed servants into Seville to strike against the representatives of the Church in any way possible.
